Elections: Michel Kobelinski candidate for the position of Secretary of the IFPH

Biographical note
Michel Kobelinski is a public historian and permanent professor in the Master’s Program in Public History at UNESPAR. His work centers on museums, oral history, and heritage education, with a strong focus on fostering inclusive dialogue between academia and communities. Throughout his career, he has been committed to advancing public memory, museums, heritage, and public art as means of social engagement.

He began his research career in anthropology and museology, contributing to the development of the anthropological collection at the Iguaçu Regional Museum. This experience deepened his understanding of the social role of heritage and the importance of including vulnerable communities in museological practices. Kobelinski’s approach integrates teaching, research, and community action, transforming historical knowledge into tools for social inclusion and citizen participation. He is actively involved with the Brazilian Network of Museum Educators (NME-BR; NME-PR) and regularly develops educational programs and public curation projects in museums.

Kobelinski is a member of both the Brazilian and Latin American Public History Networks (RBHP; REDLAHP), and is a regular participant in national and international events. He served on the editorial team of Public History Weekly (2022–2023) and as a columnist for the Boletim Tak, published by the House of Polish Culture Brazil, where he explores the identity, culture, and memory of Polish descendants and immigrants in Brazil.

In 2025, he co-authored the book Reason and Sensibilities in Selected Works of Saint-Pierre with Ioana Galleron (Paris 8 University), published by the Centre-West State University Press (UNICENTRO). This work examines the relationship between literature and public dissemination, with particular emphasis on translating “The Indian Shack” into Portuguese.

Statement of interest for the position of IFPH Secretary
I am enthusiastic about the opportunity to serve as Secretary of the International Federation of Public History, a role that aligns with my commitment to promoting inclusive, community-oriented, and interdisciplinary approaches to public history globally. Throughout my career, I have prioritised building bridges between academic research, museum practice, and local communities, believing that a vibrant public history sector requires interconnected networks and shared visions.

My work with international organisations has reinforced my conviction that fostering open dialogue and collaborative projects across borders is essential for advancing the field. I am particularly interested in leveraging digital platforms to increase engagement and accessibility, as I have experience managing digital newsletter initiatives, curating online projects, and developing educational content aimed at diverse audiences.

As Secretary, I would dedicate myself to streamlining organisational communication, supporting member engagement, and expanding the federation’s reach through innovative digital strategies. Joining the IFPH leadership, I am eager to contribute my skills, passion, and experience in building a more connected and impactful global community committed to the transformative potential of public history.
