Arnita Jones, Secretary of the IFPH Steering Committee will receive the NCPH 2016 Founders Award
The IFPH is honored to announce that Arnita Jones, Ph.D., corresponding secretary of the IFPH Steering Committee from 2011 to 2015, has been selected to receive the NCPH Founder’s Award at this year’s 2016 annual meeting in Baltimore, MD, USA.
Dr. Jones will receive the award along with Dr. Philip Cantelon the founder and president of History Associates of Washington , DC.
The National Council for Public History (NCPH) Founders Award: “the NCPH Council of Past Presidents has developed the Founders Award to recognize those individuals who were present at the creation of NCPH and who played critical roles in the organization’s success.”
Dr. Jones served as the executive director of the American Historical Association from 1999 to 2010 and was the director of the Organization of American Historians from 1991 to 1999. Early in her career she was a program officer at the National Endowment for the Humanities. She continues to serve as an Adjunct Professor of History at American University, where Dr. Jones teaches courses in public history.
She earned her BA degree at Vanderbilt University, where she graduated magna cum laude; and she completed her MA and Ph.D. in history at Emory University, where she was a Woodrow Wilson Scholar. She has published widely on public history and the administration of historical programs.
